After feeling I'd go insane with the anticipation, we finally have our baby!
During the previous week I had my regular appointment and was a little more effaced and the baby was down, but not any further dilated. Friday went in because I was feeling dizzy, my heart was beating a bit fast, and I hadn't felt the baby kick for awhile. Went in and everything was fine, but my midwife didn't want me working the rest of the day so I came home. Started having Braxton Hicks contractions fairly regularly off and on all evening Friday and throughout most of the day Saturday. Was going nuts thinking "one more contraction and this will be it", then they'd stop. Very nervewracking!
Then Sunday morning I got up with this plan of all the things we were going to get done -- go to breakfast, then grocery shopping, laundry, etc. We had just stepped out the door to go to breakfast at Perkins when I got to say "Babe, I think my water just broke". Went inside and indeed that was what had happened! This was around 8:30am. Called the midwife on-call and she told me to take a shower, eat some breakfast, and then head to the hospital. Started having contractions and they made the Braxton Hicks look like a paper cut by comparison! :)
Got to the hospital around 9:30am and I'll cut the details but long story short I was VERY glad they have invented the epidural! Gave birth to my exceptionally beautiful daughter (I'm not biased or anything...) at 10:07pm. Happy Mother's Day to me!
We came home from the hospital Tuesday afternoon and have been working on getting adjusted to the major change in our lives. The first night was pretty bad as far as not getting much sleep, etc. Next post will be photos!
